I hope you will make plans to attend our Seasonal Celebration program, August 10 at the Extension Office. There will be two sessions offered. The first session will be at 2:00 p.m. and the second session will be at 6:00 p.m. Julie Gardner and myself will be conducting the program. We will have a table for each of the four seasons that features decorating projects that will make your home special and unique during each holiday. Make plans to attend, and bring your friends with you. This will be an outstanding opportunity to promote FCE.
We have a special opportunity for all of our FCE members. On August 18th we will be having a Healthwise Handbook Training, at 10 a.m., in the county Extension office training room. The Healthwise Handbook is an excellent family medical resource. On the 18th, we will be selling the books for $10 and conducting a training on how to use the resource. Also, Rita Fuentes, a nurse with the Williamson County and Cities Health District, has agreed to attend and conduct a special health risk appraisal for anyone who chooses to participate. The health risk appraisal involves filling out a confidential questionnaire. Rita will take the questionnaires and enter the data into the computer, and you will receive a printout of your own personal health risk appraisal. The Healthwise Handbook initiative is one of the recommended state FCE programs. If you would like to participate in this program, contact the Extension Office and sign up. You will find that the 454 page handbook is well worth the ten dollars It was developed by a team of doctors and has proven to be an excellent resource book!
At the conclusion of the 5-A-Day program series, we had a large group of participants that wanted to continue to meet on a monthly basis. On September 1st we will begin Lunch and Learn program series that will meet on the first Friday of each month, from 12:10 to 12:50. Lunch will be served for three dollars. Participants will receive the recipes used for the luncheon. We will talk about how the foods were prepared. And we will have a short program. At the September meeting the program will be a "Fashion Forecast for Fall." I hope you will make plans to attend. This is another great FCE marketing opportunity
The leader training topic for your September meetings is "Finding Your Ideal Silhouette". The training will be conducted August 30th, 1:30 p.m., at the Extension Office Conference Room. If your club has chosen this as a program for September, make sure someone is in attendance.
I am looking forward to September and October. Once again, it is time for me to meet with all the FCE clubs. The scheduled program is "Salsa: The Easy Way To Get Your Five A Day". Several of you still need to call and schedule the date you would like for me to come to your club meeting. Please do this as soon as possible, as my calendar for fall is quickly filling up. I look forward to hearing from you.
We are currently working on developing a Web Page for the Williamson County Extension Office. As soon as we get it up and running, there will be a special link for FCE. Your newsletter will be posted there as well as other FCE promotional information. The address for the site is http://williamson-tx.tamu.edu. This will be another great tool for reaching new audiences in this technological society we are living in.
The next FCE Association Meeting will be held September 5, 10:00 a.m., at the Extension Office training room. Please make sure your club is represented.
