Williamson County Extension Education Association
October 2000 Newsletter
Successful State
We had a great time in Odessa, and we came back with a new name! Delegates voted during the state meeting, and our new name is Texas Extension Education Association. We can all look at the next few months as a wonderful opportunity to promote the Extension Education Association and educate the public on the vast amount of education, leadership, and community service that takes place through our local clubs and county association! Your delegates also attended some excellent educational programs that will be available to your clubs in the coming year. Following the November Association meeting, there will be a mini-convention, so you can get a preview of the three state meeting programs that will be available for your club.
Lunch & Learn
We had a great lunch & learn program in September. Virginia Fisher, owner of Naturally Unique, gave the audience a good fall fashion preview. There were 41 people in attendance. The October program promises to be just as good. An interior designer will be the speaker, and she will be talking about accessories for the home. The Lunch & Learn sessions are conducted on the second Friday of every month. A meal is served for $4 and there is a short program. The meal features healthy and easy to prepare foods and participants receive the recipes used. It is a great time for fun and fellowship, and an excellent opportunity to visit with people from around the county about opportunities available through Extension Education Clubs. We have decided it is necessary for people to pre-register for these programs since they are growing in popularity. I don’t want to run out of food! So if you plan on attending the Home Accessory program October 13th, please call or e-mail so we’ll know how many to expect.
Fund Raising Opportunity
If any of you are looking for a quick and easy club fund raiser, I would be happy to let your club be in charge of providing the meal for one of the Lunch & Learn programs. The club would need to decide on a menu. Please try to choose healthy, easy-to-prepare foods that participants would enjoying getting the recipes for. The recipes would need to be turned in to Katherine a week ahead of time so she could get them typed and run off. The club would also need to provide the paper goods necessary for the meal. The club would receive all the money taken in. Depending on the recipes chosen, at four dollars a person, a club could certainly make a profit. The following months are available: February, April, May, September, and November. I’ll let clubs that are interested sign up on a first come, first serve basis. If this is a money-making project your club would be interested in, call the Extension Office and talk to me about it as soon as possible.
Hutto Trunk Show
Don’t forget about the Hutto Trunk Show scheduled for October 26th, 7:00 p.m., at the Hutto Lutheran Church. There will be clothing and accessories on display and for sale. It should be a lot of fun and a great time to visit with other Extension Education club members!
4-H Food Show
The Williamson County 4-H Food Show is scheduled for Sunday, October 15th, 2:00 p.m. If any of you would like to serve as a food show judge, call the Extension Office.
Special Association Meeting in November
You will receive more information in your November newsletter, but we want you to go ahead and mark your calendars for November 6th. This will be our first association meeting of the new Extension Education Year. We will take care of Association business, and then we will install all of the new club officers for the 2000-2001 year. That means we want the officers for ALL the clubs to attend. Following officer installation we will have our mini state convention. And we will end the activities with a soup and salad luncheon. The soup will be provided by the Executive Committee, and we are asking everyone else to provide the salads. This will be a great way to kick-off our new year and our new name!
Bridge to Health
A Bridge to Health program series for individuals interested in weight control and healthy lifestyle choices will be provided, beginning Monday, October 2nd. This is a joint effort with the Georgetown Healthcare System. We will meet every Monday during the noon hour for eight weeks at the hospital. The fee for participation is $10 for the entire eight week series. All Extension Education Club members are invited to participate. Call the Extension Office to sign up.
